I am not from NLU, we all have grown up listening to Harvard, Yale MIT, IIT, NIT,IIM,NLSIU etc, but only 1 or 2 % of student goes to these
precious universities, does this means these student are exceptional, extra
ordinary and incomparable?
Yes, may be or maybe
not because these students are also human being just like us, most of them get
placed in good companies just because they are from reputed institution, there
is no difference in our learning ability and theirs, most of the time just the
study environment which different.
But having the tag of being a student of famous institution
guarantees successes in life??
A big No
None of institution teaches you how to think, how to act and
what to say, you can ignore the saying part because very university and college
prepare you for what to say in an interview.
Why your university/ college does not matter:
1.The dream Company:
I don’t know about others but I have some dream companies I
want to work with. I often think how will I ever get an interview appointment
with them or why will they even consider me. Because the truth is most of the
reputed companies only search for people from good colleges, for some your
abilities does not matter it’s just the institution you are associated with
matters, but most of such companies also recruit from third parties (Off role)
so an ideal way to approach them is from the third party, get in with less pay
and after few years you can easily get On Role.
This tip can only be
applicable for the people who have approached their dream company in all the
possible way but have failed to get a chance even for an interview.
2.We have enough resources now:
Now when everything is online, we have the chance of
learning from really good teachers, most of them are available for free and
some are not but don’t hesitate to buy any course you like because it is not
waste of money, it is an investment on yourself, my father says never ever be a
miser when it comes to getting knowledge or a chance to learn.
So when everything is online, student of good universities
and colleges also have the same resources as you so it really does not matter
where are you from.
3.Test your ability:
In institution like IIT, NLU , IIM etc
most of the student get a change to do an internship to get a practical
experience, the fact is companies come to their campus even for hiring interns but for student (less famous college)it’s a struggle,
contacting the companies, sending CV,
resume and SOP even then not being sure about securing the position of an
intern, even for unpaid internships.
But even then try as much as possible, I am a law student
even a court observation can teach a lot
to me so if you are from different field try to get as much as practical
knowledge and if that is not possible then try to get all the knowledge on how
things actually work in your field.
Another piece of advice I would like to give you is, take part in every small program, take initiative and be out spoken.
Before I say a goodbye, I have clarification to make, most
of the famous education intuition are at this position because of their teachers,
most of the time the teacher they hire are extra ordinary.
I am leaving you with a note that nothing is impossible if you have self control.
